Not my favourite plant in the garden as it spreads very easily. But the flowers and seeds are beautiful.

The first pages of the Australian leg of the Globa The first pages of the Australian leg of the Global Sketchbook are complete. I decided to go with the flowers in my garden rather than natives, which are a little hard to come by at the moment.
My theme of sunny plants seems even more relevant at the moment, as much of Australia is experiencing record high temperatures.
Well done SBA for another great initiative, promoting botanical art and bringing our wide community together.

Botanica 2025, The Art of Disguise and Deception, Botanica 2025, The Art of Disguise and Deception, opens tonight at the Garden Gallery, Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney.
You can visit from tomorrow, 5 April, until Friday, 25April.
This is one of my pieces, the African sausage tree or Kigelia africana.
Its beautiful red flowers emit a pungent smell at night to attract bats, the tree’s main pollinator. They then produce huge sausage shaped fruit, which can be much bigger than the example I’ve included.
There is even one of these sausages on display ‘in the flesh’ at the exhibition.

My second piece in ‘Bountiful Botanicals’, opening My second piece in ‘Bountiful Botanicals’, opening tonight in the ACT. It is one of forty also selected to be part of the online ‘Botanical Art Worldwide’ exhibition, which will be held concurrently in countries around the world on May 18.
This is a flame tree, Brachychiton acerifolius.
I think it’s fascinating that each of these little red bell flowers can eventually become a group of big, hanging, dark seed pods.
